Hello Michael,

Do you have any time to speak at the moment? I would like to ask you more about what you mentioned to me after the siren rescue. About video games.

-Zelda

[ it'll be a little easier to take in his explanations over text, or so she hopes. it hasn't slipped her mind in her contemplation, but she's not sure yet what the consequences or meaning of it is. ]

My apologies for the delay. I've been pondering it a lot on my own.

[ not so much the video game portion, or the technicalities behind it that he tried to elaborate on. it's more that he recognizes her world from his, even if that should be impossible. ]

You told me back then that there are stories of my country Hyrule in your world, through these video games. Do you think you can tell me about one of them? The basics will do.

[ the last line added in because she knows michael has a tendency to ramble. a lot. ]

[ so it's not just hyrule. he knows about ganon, link, herself. there are things he mentions no one could just throw out randomly without understanding hyrule's long ten thousand year history. ]

It is incredibly bizarre! However, I must say I'm fascinated all the same. You needn't apologize. I'm actually very interested in learning more.

The story you recount bears some similarity to a fable recounting one of my ancestors. In the story the Hero must throw himself adrift through time to protect the realm, aided by seven sages. The last sage is the princess, who aided the Hero in secret under the identity of a Sheikah warrior. Together they defeat the Mad King and save the realm.

It's just a fairy tale though. I'm surprised something so innocuous could possibly traverse realms!

Right.

[ except nothing comes to mind when formulating an explanation for it. how does such a legend make all its way across realms? and for what purpose - the triforce surely cannot exist outside of hyrule, so this 'game' can't even be used as a guide to obtain it. ]

The fable has multiple versions. Sometimes there is a flooded world. Other times it is up in the skies above. Many variables, but some few constants. The Hero and the Princess are two of them.

It's me. It's also my mother, my grandmother, and so on. All of us were named Zelda since the beginning.

[ it annoyed her a lot as a child. she didn't like having the same name as the other women in her family. but in age she actually likes it. it's an honor. ]

Is it really spooky to you? I've been thinking about it and I'm more wracked with curiosity. It can actually serve as a clue to our own dilemma. It proves a connection between us that should be impossible, but exists nonetheless.

That makes a great deal of sense, so yes to both. It makes me feel like we're all the more connected. That our lives are intertwined in a way that begets fate.

[ she loves it honestly, even if it's so very strange to think people far away from her realm know her name, know her country, and the stories she grew up with. it feels humbling though. ]

Can I ask what the name of these stories are then? If my name is in the title, I'm curious now.

[ "the legend of zelda" ]

I like it. Your storytellers have good sensibilities.

Even if you don't believe in fate, I'm still glad we met. You, the reader, and I, the one in the story, share a bond we couldn't have expected to come. It's a good thing. I thank you for telling me all of this.
